CURRENT PICKS

CIVIL GOAT | Looking forward to trying the new Guadalupe location and working from there at some point this month. More info here.

CODEPENDENT | I stopped by Codependent in February for cocktails. It’s a space that I think is underrated—especially for those of you working from wherever. I tried Magic Water, meatballs, and avocado dip. Seems like a strange combination, but the meatballs were highly recommended, and now are by me too.

JACOBY’S | They now offer happy hour to-go, which I’ll likely try this month.

LITTLEFIELD’S | Cafe Medici + Veracruz in Tarrytown. It’s worth visiting if you enjoy the area. I prefer to order online—the wait is significantly shorter than other Veracruz locations.

QI | By Chef Ling of Lin Asian Bar, Qi offers higher-end options in the building just behind Whole Foods Downtown.

SAMMATARO | The pizzas look great and the branding is interesting (website). Even better, they’ve committed (within two months of opening, I might add) to partnering with Free Lunch. They don’t sell alcohol onsite (and I’m not sure that they allow it).

STINSON’S | I haven’t been to Stinson’s in almost four years. If you go regularly, let me know if you have recommendations.

UCHIKO | Invite me when you go! More info here.

40 NORTH | They currently have a pizza by La Barbecue on the menu.

Commodore Perry’s patio, which I visited twice in November

TIDBITS

AN IMPORTANT READ RE: MCGUIRE MOORMAN HOSPITALITY | For those of you familiar with Austin’s restaurant scene, there’s a slim chance that MMH isn’t already part of your vocabulary. In the past, I’ve held a great deal of respect for their work (until recent openings—more to come one day). Read more here about the backlash regarding MMH’s handlings of the recent chaos brought on by the snowstorm.

GOOD APPLE FOODS | Delivered to your door, $30 per week for enough local produce for two people. It also pays for a box for someone who needs it. Use this code for $10 off: AzZcvBS7EKztDIC4. Find it here.

JEREMIAH TOWER: THE LAST MAGNIFICENT | Core to the origins of California cuisine, Jeremiah Tower dropped off the radar over time. I recommend watching this documentary (Netflix) if you aren’t familiar with his name.

MOROMI SHOYU | Artisanal Shoyu made in Connecticut. I’m especially eager to try the Chili Moromi.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE TEXAS CHILI PARLOR? | If you’re an Austinite and don’t already know, read it.

TOP FEW THINGS

I created this category for affiliate marketing to support my website. If you’re considering purchasing the below, please use the links to add them to your cart! Long-term, it’ll leave me with a bigger budget for brand growth. If any of you have websites that you recommend for affiliate marketing, send them my way. Amazon isn’t my first pick, but it’s a start.

THE NASTY BITS | I’d love to talk about the book (by Anthony Bourdain) with any of you. Starting it this month.

OIL PASTELS | Inspired by @stillherestilllife and a desire that I’ve previously mentioned to write a recipe book with my own drawings, I’ve started drawing food with these pastels to satisfy that itch.

TEN ARGUMENTS FOR DELETING YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS | Until I read this book, I had a minimal understanding of “the algorithms” about which we hear or to which we refer. I believe it’s a must-read.
